ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE____________________________________

My name is Tania Skotleski and I am the Assistant Principal of Lackawanna Trail Junior-Senior High School. I am delighted to work for a school district that prides itself on scholarship, innovation, high expectations and teamwork.

The school board, administration, faculty and staff are committed to ensuring that Lackawanna Trail Junior-Senior High School is a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to learning. In order for each student to achieve personal success, we have established high expectations for behavior. By creating a positive school climate, all students can pursue their life’s goals.

Education is a partnership between the school and home. As such, we encourage regular communication. The district strives to maintain contact with families through a variety of channels such as the telephone, e-mail, MMS (our on-line grade book), meetings, a comprehensive website, informative mailings and special programs. To enhance this collaborative effort, I ask that parents and students familiarize themselves with the Student Handbook, Curriculum Guides, Student Dress Policy and MMS, as well as other information and policies of the Lackawanna Trail School District.

I look forward to the wonderful experiences that I expect the 2009-2010 school year to bring. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

ATTENDANCE______________________________

It is mandatory, under the Pennsylvania Compulsory Attendance Law, that students attend school regularly. The administration of Lackawanna Trail is committed to complying with these regulations.

Please review "Your Attendance Matters" for more information on tardies, early dismissal, excused and unexcused absences and how these can effect extracurricular activities, driving privileges, field trips and family/educational trips.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET USAGE_______________

Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High School provides computer use and Internet access for all students. The use of computers, the school network, and the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in disciplinary action by school officials and/or the cancellation of those privileges. Students should use these resources to conduct research that is consistent with the objectives of the Lackawanna Trail School District. Since students are responsible for all activities that take place through the use of their school account, it is strongly recommended that students do not share their logon information or passwords. Please consult the Student Handbook and The Internet Use Policy for acceptable and unacceptable use of computers, the school’s network and the Internet.

LOCKER USAGE ________________________________________________

Each student is assigned a locker for his/her use only. Sharing lockers or combinations is prohibited. Students are responsible for all materials in their lockers. If students have trouble with their locker they are to report this to the high school office. No student purchased locks are permitted. The student must assume the responsibility for all school issued materials. All lockers remain the property of Lackawanna Trail High School and the school reserves the right to search lockers as determined to be necessary to maintain the health and safety of the student body and to prevent the use of the lockers for unauthorized or illegal purposes; therefore, the school maintains the legal right to inspect any locker when there is an indication of misuse. No items may be placed on the outside of the lockers. Gym lockers are to be used during gym class only.

NEW: If the lock is found to be broken on a student's locker and that student did not report it to the main office, he/she is subject to a $12 lock replacement fee.

SCHOOL DRESS POLICY_________________________________________

All articles of student dress must be appropriately sized to the student and worn properly. Clothing must not be excessively loose or tight. Students may not add to, nor subtract from, the approved student dress policy. Also, student clothing must be maintained in good condition, without holes, rips or tears, or additions. Please review the Student Dress Policy for requirements regarding specific clothing items.

STUDENT DISCIPLINE ____________________________________________

Students required to serve detention/suspension must abide by specific guidelines as described in the Student Handbook.

During detention/in school suspension, students may complete work, read approved materials and study quietly. Students who are unprepared to complete an approved assignment during detention/in school suspension will be issued a written assignment.

Any student who is involved in extracurricular activities will not be allowed to play, practice or participate in events during the hours that they are scheduled for detention or suspension.

Failure to comply with these expectations will result in the following:

• Failure to complete an assignment during Level I detention or failure to attend a Level I detention will result in a Level II detention.
• Failure to complete an assignment during a Level II detention or failure to attend a Level II detention will result in an out-of-school suspension for 1-3 days.
• Other misbehaviors during a Level I or Level II detention may result in a student being dismissed from the detention; thus being suspended.

NEW: This school year, Level I detentions will be held on Tuesdays from 3 PM until 4:30 PM and also on Saturdays from 9AM until 10:30 AM. Level II detentions will be served as either two Level I detentions during the week or one Saturday detention from 9 AM until 12 PM. Please consult the Student Handbook for more information concerning disciplinary action and what constitutes a Level I through Level IV offense.

“GOOD GUY” PROGRAM__________________________________
Each year the Lackawanna Trail Administration hosts the annual Good Guys’ Breakfast. The purpose of this program is to recognize students who are good school citizens. These students are polite and respectful, work to the best of their ability, do what is asked of them, and volunteer to do more. In general, they make coming to school everyday worthwhile. Good guys are nominated by administrators, faculty and staff.

The 2009-2010 Good Guys' Breakfast is tentatively scheduled for March 30, 2010 at 7 AM in the High School Cafeteria.
