"Home of the Lions"

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back to the Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High School Webpage. We have been updating this site routinely with school information about higlighting important updates and upcoming events.

As we begin the 2010-2011 school year, I look forward to working with you again as your high school principal to provide our children with rewarding educational experiences which include challenging academic and extra curricular programs; interscholastic athletic programs, and new technology applications. Our school will academically prepare our students to insure that they acquire the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. My faculty will closely monitor our students who require remediation and assistance, and will provide additional programs as needed.

There are several goals we would like to focus on this year:
• meeting and exceeding AYP benchmarks for reading-72% and math-67% goals for the 2010-2011,
• enhancing the academic rigor of all courses especially the newly added Dual Enrollment offerings,
• employing the goals of the district’s strategic plan,
• implementing the curriculum and state standards using the Standards Aligned System (SAS),
• implementing mental health and drug/alcohol programs through the SAP program
• initiating a morning announcements newscast program, and
• enforcing the student dress policy and acceptable behavior expectations.

All these goals will require a collaborative effort to help us realize school success.

Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, it is important for all of us to work hard demonstrating our commitment while insuring that our school is safe and that our students succeed academically, socially, and perform to the best of their abilities in extracurricular activities.

Lastly, I am honored and proud to be your principal. I welcome any opportunity to talk with you personally.

Sincerely,

John Rushefski
Principal
